Our base in Bordeaux, a UNESCO world heritage city, with a riverside setting which formerly clattered with the sound of sailors, wine merchants and rolling wine barrels, will enchant you with its modern delights and sense of history. You’ll enjoy a range of experiences, including antique shopping in the bohemian Chartrons neighbourhood, a visit of the Modern Art Museum transformed from a warehouse, a food walking tour in tangled Medieval streets, and a discovery of the striking Cité du Vin, a high tech, playful, modern facility dedicated to the city’s most famous “resident” – wine of course! On that note, ever heard of the Urban Wine Trail? – let’s do it! Wine bars, shopping, a pastry cooking class and an opportunity to ride in a classic 2CV car will all be in the program. And of course, plenty of fairytale Medoc chateaux, along with the golden stone village of St Emilion. To top it all off, we’ll enjoy our last two days up the coast in the Ile de Ré, a playground for well-heeled Parisians. This Atlantic coast hideaway, similar to the Hamptons, promises seafood restaurants, cute markets where you’ll find espadrilles, fishing boats, lighthouses, art galleries, and scenery that feels like an Impressionist painting!
